The convoy programme exists because the Americas are not a backdrop. In each country, selected local teams may join the two core vehicles for a national stage, driving roads they know better than any visiting crew ever could.
Applying is deliberately detailed. We ask about the driver, the team, the vehicle, the insurance, the tires, the recovery equipment and the mechanical condition, because a convoy is only as safe as its least prepared vehicle. Detailed medical readiness information is never collected on a public form — if an application progresses, that is requested later through a private channel.
Screening runs in stages: documents and insurance first, then experience against the terrain of the specific chapter, then a technical inspection and a briefing before the stage begins. Capacity is limited, usually to two guest vehicles at a time, so a strong application can still be held for a later chapter.
Participation is at your own risk and self-funded: your fuel, food, accommodation and repairs are yours. What the expedition provides is the stage plan, the briefing, convoy discipline, coordination with local authorities where required, and the story.
Teams from outside the Americas follow a separate track, because visas, shipping or rental and temporary import have to be solved before anything else. Those applications are screened earlier and more strictly, and places are allocated after national teams in the same chapter.
